Acne treatment

Natural acne treatment for teens and adults through the use of acupuncture and Chinese medicine

Chinese medicine for acne

Chinese Medicine treats the body as an interconnected being, where the state of your internal health impacts the state of your external health. This is why as a teenager it is common for changes in your hormones (internal health) to affect your skin (external health). Along with hormones, general health, diet, lifestyle, stress, anxiety and grief are some of the most influential factors in the severity of your acne.

Adult-onset acne often presents as deep, cystic acne that may be painful or itchy. This build-up of inflammation and toxicity in the skin often occurs over the jawline, cheeks and chin. Because the chin is a very hormonal area in Chinese Medicine, any acne that is accompanied by menstrual issues often occurs in this area. Acne along the jawline can occur when there is gut inflammation which may be caused by over-consuming spicy or sugary foods.

My experience with acne

As I have experienced adult-onset acne, I understand that it feels like there are not many options apart from antibiotics or Roaccutane — each of which has significant side effects. I looked for an alternative to these treatments because I wanted to know if there was another way. This is why I am so passionate about offering a natural solution for Acne Vulgaris that takes the same amount of time as western medicine options.

How does acupuncture help acne?

Acupuncture is used to support the optimal function of your organs and address the cause of your acne (whether it be due to gut inflammation, or stress and hyper-emotions disrupting your body’s homeostasis). Acupuncture helps treat acne through its anti-inflammatory effects and hormone regulation. Usually, standard acupuncture appointments are sufficient for targeting acne, however, if additional support is needed to reduce the inflammation and promote healthy skin regeneration, a few Cosmetic Acupuncture sessions may be required, where tailored Chinese herbal masks will be used on your face to reduce red, painful and pustular pimples.

Acupuncture can also be used for reducing pitting and acne scarring when inflamed acne has cleared. Acupuncture needles are inserted at the location of the scarring to encourage collagen and elastin formation and healthy skin rejuvenation.

How does herbal medicine help acne?

Herbal medicine is an important part of the puzzle when treating teenage or adult acne. When there is persistent inflammation at the skin level, herbal medicine may help naturally reduce the cause of the inflammation and provide daily support to improve the internal health of your body.

Herbal Medicine supports healthy skin so you can achieve the best results as quickly as possible.

What can I expect from Chinese medicine acne treatment?

During your consultation, we’ll discuss what areas you would like to focus on and I will inspect your skin to form a diagnosis and understand the state your internal health is having upon your skin.

I recommend booking the Initial Acupuncture Consultation and Treatment so we can develop a treatment plan to reduce your skin inflammation and improve the state of your internal health so that we target the cause of your acne, rather than provide a band-aid solution.

During acne treatment

You may notice that other symptoms you were experiencing such as difficulty getting to sleep, moodiness, anxiety, being easily frustrated, menstrual pain and abdominal pain improve when treating your acne. This is the powerful effect that treating the internal cause of your acne can have on the rest of your health.

As the average skin cycle renews every 28-35 days, inflammation will lessen during this period, and continue to reduce afterwards.
